Biography

Hillary Osborn, a Cape Cod native, received her BFA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and her MFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Currently living on Cape Cod, Ms. Osborn works at her studio at the Cataumet Arts Center. During a period of study in the summer of 1994 Ms.Osborn was in New York City at the New York Studio School where she studied with Graham Nickson and John Dubrow. It was here that she developed an interest in landscape painting. Classes were held in Central Park for a three week period with excursions to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. After that experience she finished her masters degree in North Carolina concentrating on urban landscapes as her subject matter.

After school Ms. Osborn moved to the Cape to be with her family. Since then she has received numerous awards for her work including Honorable Mention from Art Calendar Magazine, she was a finalist in 1999 for the Artists Magazine’s annual art competition and was selected as an emerging artist by Cape Cod Life Magazine in the same year. She has received recognition from the Cape Cod Arts Association and the Falmouth Artists’ Guild. Her works have been on exhibit in New York City, North Carolina and throughout Cape Cod. Her paintings have been described as painterly and expressionistic with influences from Richard Diebenkorn to Fairfield Porter. Her work can be seen at Franklin Riehlman Fine Art in New York City, the Charles-Baltivik Gallery in Provincetown, the Woods Hole Gallery and The Cape Gallery Framer in Falmouth.

Hillary Osborn has taught painting and drawing classes at the Falmouth Artists’ Guild and the Cataumet Arts Center. She also has been active on the Board of Directors at the Falmouth Artists’ Guild, working on the education committee and the annual arts auction.
